Following the publication of the third version of Active Design last May, David Lock Associates, with The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and Sport England, embarked on a series of eight workshops across England. These workshops sought to inform and engage local authorities, health professionals, national bodies and the physical activity sector on how the built environment effects our health, and how improvements to the design of the built environment can have a positive effect on health outcomes.
With locations across England, the sessions were led by our team and centred around urban design skills development through the implementation of the principles of Active Design. The sessions were focussed on a site visit, allowing participants to see the principles in action, whilst considering how further built environment interventions could increase impact further. Each site was accompanied by a series of talks and tours from locally based expert speakers, each with an intimate knowledge of the design, planning and delivery processes for each site to further expand learning opportunities.
A report summarising the workshop content and key findings has been published today, which you can viewed on the Sport England website.
