Detailed plans for the next phase of expansion at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton have been submitted to South Cambridgeshire District Council. If approved, it will allow for the next steps in growing and delivering a world class campus community for life sciences.
Submitted by David Lock Associates on behalf of Urban&Civic Hinxton Ltd and Wellcome Genome Campus Ltd, the application includes proposals for two new exemplary flexible research buildings, delivering in excess of 20,000 gross external area new floorspace and expanding the campus’ capabilities and reinforcing its position as a leading hub for life sciences and innovation. This phase will be crucial for connecting the wider expansion of the site and the existing campus. The buildings are also proposed to include pub and restaurant facilities, to create a dynamic hub of activity. As a gateway to the new expanded Campus, it will set the precedent of the quality that is to be delivered across the site.
The application is the third building that we have been involved in bringing forward under the Outline Permission, which includes 150,000m² of research and translation uses and up to 1,500 new homes, as well as leisure, retail, and community spaces. The Thornton building is already complete and occupied and the Parcel A building, including residential and leisure facilities, is approved and works are due to start in coming months.

What’s Next?
The application is currently undergoing consultation, and it is hoped the application will be determined over the next few months, with works to start on site later this year.
We are proud to have played a part in this significant milestone for the Wellcome Genome Campus, strengthening its role in driving forward cutting-edge genomic science and biotechnology.
